Real Bride: Jessica K.
From the Bride:
Britton and I met in the fall of 2014 in Hays, where we both lived. We began dating shortly after we met and just fell head over heels for each other. Britton graduated from college in May 2015 and started searching for a job in the tiny town of Hays. Being a small town, it just wasn’t able to offer anything to him. An opportunity came up with my work to transfer to Salt Lake City, so we decided to take that opportunity and move there together.
We took a trip there in October for a week (the first time being there for us both), found a place, and moved there right after Thanksgiving. We knew no one, and had no friends or family there to help us spend our time. This meant we did everything together, and it just created a stronger bond for both of us. In February 2016 we got our dog, Koba, and he has been such an added blessing to our little family. In April 2016, Britton proposed while we were out walking Koba in a park and I couldn’t have been more surprised. From then on, we were planning a wedding for a year and a half.
I started looking for my dress in October 2016 in Salt Lake City. My mom had passed away over 20 years ago, so I went to all appointments on my own. It was really hard; I was trying to make a huge decision on my own, and I was never getting a real, true feeling that any of the dresses were the ONE. My aunt called me and insisted I come to Kansas City for a weekend so I could have a true bridal experience and look for dresses with the support of my family. I booked my flight and appointments at several salons, but didn’t have much of a positive outlook because of the luck I’d had in Salt Lake.
One of the main reasons I had booked Altar Bridal is because I knew they carried Blush by Hayley Paige, and I was just in love with her dresses. When I got to my appointment, I had a really hard time understanding what I wanted in a dress, but Sara pulled the Orion dress from Blush by Hayley Paige and I just knew when I put it on that it was everything I wanted in a dress. She put a belt on and a long veil and it was just perfect, and everyone there with me knew it. All other appointments following that one were pretty much useless, since I knew that this was the dress. I called Sara shortly after and ordered the dress, and couldn’t have been happier.
Britton and I got married in my hometown of Victoria, KS. Victoria is known for its large Cathedral that was recently established as a Basilica. It was insanely difficult to plan a wedding from two states away. I had so much help from family; I definitely could not have done it without them.
We wanted Britton to stand out from his groomsmen so we decided he’d wear a blue suit, while all of his groomsmen would wear gray. For my bridesmaids, I wanted a mis-matching sort of thing going on. I wanted people to walk into the wedding and not notice any true color scheme. I found a convertible dress that had sashes that each bridesmaid could customize to wear however they wanted. The colors turned out to be just beautiful. My cousin, Aubrey Hearld, created all of the bouquets and boutonnières. She used silk flowers so everyone could keep their flowers. She even adorned my bouquet with my mother’s rosary at my request. They went beautifully with the bridesmaid dresses.
The whole day was just incredible and I couldn’t have asked for a better day. After our wedding, Britton and I took a two week long (and much needed) honeymoon in Italy. We had a second reception in Salt Lake City, following our honeymoon at Squatter’s Pub Brewery to celebrate with our friends in Salt Lake.
