Real Bride: Jeri M.

From the bride: Steven and I met in Kansas City and on June 6th, 2015 we hosted a housewarming party, which was coincidentally the same day as the Belmont Stakes. Before the race started, Steven stopped to give a speech and after saying a few words he dropped to his knee and proposed. I grabbed the ring and put it on without even saying yes, but it wasn’t just a winning day for the two of us- that was the day American Pharoah won the Triple Crown! This may have been what sparked our new love for horse racing and we found ourselves attending the Kentucky Derby in the spring before the wedding.

The wedding date was chosen purposefully 11-5-16 as 11+5 =16, so essentially 16/16. We stayed at Hotel Sorella where we had our first look, which was captured beautifully by our amazing photographers Rita and Jen from Heirloom Photo Company. I tied Steven’s bow-tie because I had learned how to tie a bow-tie when we went to the Derby earlier in the year. We wanted an intimate evening wedding with our immediate families and had our brothers stand as our witnesses. The ceremony was performed by our close friend who knew us when we both met, while “All I Ask of You” from Jeri’s favorite production Phantom of the Opera played in the background, followed by “All You Need is Love” which was featured in the wedding scene in Love Actually, another favorite.  Following the ceremony we toasted with our families with champagne, which is our favorite drink.  As guests arrived to the reception, they were greeted with champagne and passed apps by Blue Pot Catering.

The décor was elegant and classy, with navy tablecloths and gold sequin runners from Ultrapom, but the stunning purple and blue flowers from Sidelines Custom Floral were the show stoppers.  I have always loved flowers and wanted them to be the main décor- they were absolutely stunning!  My bouquet had my grandparent’s wedding rings attached in their memory as I only have one grandmother living.  There was also a special frame that Sidelines created with succulents and orchids in memory of our family members.

We wanted to have the ultimate party for our family and friends, which we kicked off with a conga line to “Shake Senora” from one of Steven’s favorite movie’s Beetlejuice.  DJ Travis kept the dance floor packed the entire evening closing out the night to our favorite song “Country Road”, which the lyric “Take me home to a place I belong” was printed on the dessert bags from Little Yellow Leaf.  Guests were sent home with delicious macarons and fruity bon bons, made by Jeri’s dear friend Tasha owner of Natasha’s Mulberry and Mott. Tasha also created two beautiful cakes-  one being the groom’s cake recognizing Steven’s diehard Royals fan status.
