Samantha came to shop with us with a very specific look in mind. She had done her research and knew the feel of her fall wedding day! Her wedding was even more beautiful and perfectly planned than I could imagine. Samantha and Matt selected the perfect group of wedding professionals to execute the best day of their lives! From the bride: I love to entertain. Whether it’s an impromptu dinner party or an elaborate bash, I love an excuse to throw a party. For us, we knew a great party required delicious food, a stocked bar (with plenty of bartenders), great music, and a ride home. Throughout the wedding planning process, that was our goal: throw a great party.
Matt and I started dating in the month of October and spent the following fall following the 2014 Kansas City Royals around the country (it only happens every 29 years, right?), so a fall wedding incorporating some of these elements made sense for us.
With the help of Mark Juhnke of Blue Pot Catering and Katherine Taylor of Studio 421 Design, we incorporated our love for the Royals during our cocktail hour. The brick-stamped patio of Eighteen Ninety stretches between the outdoor ceremony area and the newly constructed reception hall, and served as a perfect cocktail area. The outdoor space equipped with a bar, restrooms, and bar top tables allowed us to keep the Royals piece separate from the other aspects of the wedding. Garden lights strung above the patio while our guests enjoyed cocktails provided by Embrace the Grape and Blue Pot passed appetizers in vintage Coca-Cola crates reminiscent of ballpark fare. I surprised Matt with a Royals stadium groom’s cake and a World Series Legacy Brick, set to be installed at Kauffman Stadium this Spring. A custom Royals jersey served as our guestbook.
Following the cocktail hour, the celebration continued inside Eighteen Ninety’s newly constructed reception space. Blue Pot served an amazing autumn-inspired meal with a harvest salad, winter spiced petite tenderloin, roasted root vegetables, and garlic mashed potatoes. After dinner coffee cocktails have always been a favorite in my family, especially my dad, so a coffee and apple cider bar paired perfectly with wedding cake and other desserts. With the help of Jon Bartlett with ReMix DJs, my quick-witted sister gave a Today Show caliber Matron of Honor speech that incorporated 20 of my favorite songs and left the entire reception rolling in laughter.
The other details of our wedding fell into place by accident. We asked our graphic designer friend (and groomsman) to design a logo to use on our wedding favors, which included koozies for the guests’ bus ride to Weston and stemless wine glasses at the reception. We liked his design so much, we used it on nearly everything—the invitations, programs, menus, napkins, coffee cups, cake topper—and a snapchat filter (designed by a different, yet equally as generous friend). The logo essentially became the unintended “brand” of our wedding and a handful of guests incorporated the logo into truly special and unique wedding gifts for us.
I never quite believed people when they said their wedding was one of the best days of their lives—but admittedly, they were right. Our wedding was fantastic and I would not change one thing about it. I am looking forward to many years of throwing amazing parties with my husband.
