From the bride:  John and I met at the University of Mississippi and started dating in October 2010. John proposed in November 2014 at my apartment right off the Plaza. During our engagement (and currently) we lived in Atlanta so I took many trips back to KC for planning. The most memorable would be dress shopping at Altar Bridal and finding my dream dress with my mom, sister, future mother-in-law, and bridesmaids! I got so many complements on my dress that I lost track!

We got married on April 16, 2016 at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral in downtown Kansas City. I grew up going to that church so it really meant a lot to me to get married there and to have a Priest that I have known since middle school officiate the ceremony. Since we met and live in the south I wanted to bring in lots of southern elements including that famous southern hospitality to make all our guest feel welcome. We also incorporated a lot of tradition because family is very important to both of us. We had lawn games, magnolia leaves wreaths, my parents cake topper, John’s Aunt’s famous pound cake, great food, lots of dancing, and endless libations.

A personal highlight, besides marrying my best friend, was the “Dollar Dance” during the reception. Instead of the money going to us we decided to announce that it was going to a charity, the Gwendolyn Strong Foundation, which funds research for Spinal Muscular Atrophy. My niece (and flower girl) has this terminal genetic disease so finding a cure is dear to our hearts. We ended up raising just over $700 for the GSF! I also loved that I got to dance with people that I probably wouldn’t have had a chance to dance with if it wasn’t for the “Dollar Dance”.  Overall, it was the wedding of my dreams and everything went smoothly thanks to all of my awesome vendors who went over the top to make everything special!
