Leigh and Tommy got married on one of the hottest days of the year, but it doesn’t show for a minute as they enjoyed each other with every moment. Leigh said to us afterwards “I adore the dress and it was just perfect for the perfect day” and whats not to love! We are obsessed with this Modern Trousseau gown and the way its organza skirt moves in some of these photos captured by M&E Photography.
From the bride: Tommy and I met on a blind date 6 years ago, right after I moved to KC from Arizona. We moved in together 2 years later when he graduated from UCM, and got engaged on 7-31-14, right about 5 years after meeting.
We wanted our wedding to represent our casual, fun natures, while still placing value on the important parts of the day. We loved our officiant, Susan Hoskins Roggenkamp, because she made the ceremony so personal to us and our relationship.
I lost my dad to cancer earlier this year, which placed some solemnness on the day as a whole. He was noticeably absent, there were tears (by many more than just me!), but it was important for him and us that it remain a happy day with a focus on the marriage itself– and it did! It was really a fun time!
We took our photos before the ceremony, at the Nelson Atkins Museum. It was 100 degrees and I knew Tommy would be sweaty and miserable, but it didn’t show for one second on his face when he saw me. That was a special moment, and made the day way more real. After being in many weddings, you get used to the getting ready, hair and makeup, mimosas, but then I got to see him and remembered it was us getting married that day. That was pretty cool.
