Julia and Blake’s wedding was such a perfect blend of dreamy summer style and a glamorous formal setting . The venue set the tone from its courtyard ceremony lit by bistro lights to the urban chic reception with a grand chandelier and subway tile walls. From the Bride: Our meeting was very random and definitely fateful! We met one night at Kelly’s in Westport. I had almost decided to call it a night before arriving at Kelly’s, but thanks to my friends, I went to one last bar: Kelly’s. Blake was on his way out with a friend, when at the last minute they decided to take a detour over to talk to me and a friend of mine. We hit it off right away, exchanged numbers, and the very next week we were back in Westport again (McCoy’s) for our first date!
The night before we were about to leave for a road trip vacation together in June 2014, Blake and I had plans to go to a Royal’s game. He convinced me to go to a happy hour before the game, and decided Kelly’s was a good spot. Little did I know, Blake wanted to take me there so he could walk me over to the very spot we met so he could propose to me right where it all started.
Blake and I love to travel! We have been on at least two vacations a year together ever since we met. It’s a great way to bond and we just exploring new cities together. To share our love for travel with our wedding guests, we decided to name our tables at the reception after our favorite vacation spots and locations around Kansas City rather than just numbering them. When guests entered the reception, they saw a large map with hearts on all our special locations. At each of the tables, there was a brief description of why that spot was so special to us.
It was a primary goal of ours that our wedding be very personal and unique to us as a couple. I think we accomplished this through many of our different elements. Our ceremony was written from scratch and officiated by my older brother Dan. Both Blake and I wrote our own vows, which really made our ceremony extra special. As mentioned before, our love for travel and information about our most special places were shared with guests through the table names. Lastly, we used the menu to personalize our wedding to our tastes–literally. Blake and I LIVE for Mexican food, so we only thought it was appropriate to serve a Mexican inspired menu at dinner. We had chips and salsa on the tables for guests, shrimp tostadas as an hors d’oeuvres, and Chile Crusted Filet Mignon with Chimichurri sauce, roasted poblano & white cheddar smashed potatoes and toasted corn with peppers, cumin & lime. We really think all our guests left our wedding feeling like they knew more about us as a couple.
The ceremony was such a special moment for Blake and I. It was so personal to us as a couple and so meaningful to be able to share our commitment to each other with our closest family and friends. We will also always remember how much fun we had celebrating the best day of our lives with the people we love so much. The whole day and night was the absolute best, and we will look back on July 11, 2015 with the best memories for the rest of our lives.
