From the Bride:
How they met:
Rob & I first met in middle school. We are both from a small town in central KS. Shortly after 7th grade began, we were “going out”. I ended things almost immediately, however, when I mistook his shyness for not liking me. (He would never speak to me or pay me any attention, and it drove me nuts). After middle school we ended up going to different high schools, but had some mutual friends that facilitated us staying in touch throughout the years. We even ran into each other a few times in college as well.
After college, Rob and I ended up moving into the same neighborhood in KC, unbeknownst to each other. When we started bumping into each other at grocery stores, it seemed like a sign. In hindsight, we were always in the back of each other’s minds, but for a couple of years, the timing was never quite right. Not until summer of 2016, when he messaged me about the church I attended. He was looking for one to attend, and said he wanted to try mine. He started coming regularly with me, and then we spent every spare moment together. We fell in love very quickly, and the rest is history! Within 4 ½ months we were engaged, and within 11 we were married.
A few things that were very important to us when planning the wedding were venue, design, and food.
We chose the River Market Event Place for a couple of reasons. The first reason is its location. When Rob and I began dating last year, he was living in the River Market. Because of that, we spent a lot of time getting to know each other there. The River Market holds a special spot in both of our hearts. The second reason is its unique design. It has a cool industrial modern flair that we both love. Since it was such a beautiful space, with great lighting, it didn’t require a whole lot of decorating. That was great for us because we really wanted to keep the details of the day simple.
Speaking of details, Rob is a graphic designer and I am an interior designer & artist, so having unique and well-designed printed pieces was also an important detail for us. We collaborated on the design of our save-the- dates, invites, ceremony programs, table signs & table numbers. It was such a fun project for us both to do, and brought us closer together. All the pieces complimented each other and our event so beautifully. It was a fun way to save money by not hiring the services out, and it put a personal touch on our special day.
When it comes to good food, we are big fans! We both specifically love Mexican food! Since neither him nor I are very formal people, we decided to do a taco, burrito, and nacho bar for our dinner. It seemed to be a hit with all our guests, and it allowed people with different dietary restrictions to customize their meal!
I really can’t leave out my most favorite part of day (besides marrying my best friend), which was getting to wear that gorgeous Rue De Seine gown. I felt amazing in it, and never wanted to take it off. Also, I was able to re-purpose my mother’s veil. She wore it when marrying my father, and it went so well with my dress! That was the icing on the cake for sure!
