From the beautiful bride: How we met – Sam and I were introduced by a mutual friend on December 31, 2009. We celebrated New Years together, and were instantly friends. We stayed just friends for almost two years after we met. During that time I made many trips to visit in St. Louis, and he moved to Australia to play professional soccer. We saw one another in Kansas City, by chance, the weekend he returned to the United States! Immediately after his return, we started dating – like literally I think he took me on our first date the next weekend.
Engagement – Sam took me to what I believed was my early birthday celebration, on May 3, 2014. He took me horseback riding at a beautiful ranch outside of St. Louis, where he proposed on top of a gorgeous ridge horseback. The next day, my actual birthday, he had a lunch planned where he invited many of our closest friends and family to celebrate, and once again, that was a total surprise to me! It was the most incredible weekend!
Together – Sam and I love taking care of our rescued fur babe together, and can’t wait to adopt her a sibling! We also love spending time with our friends and family members, watching movies, playing games, going to sporting events, cooking and traveling together.
A few special things about our wedding – I work at the Saint Louis Zoo, and animals and animal welfare has always been my passion. Each place setting, table number and dessert description was printed on beautiful watercolor paper, and held up by a gold (spray painted) animal! So cute! I had to incorporate animals into the wedding somehow. We also had photos of our parents and grandparents from their weddings displayed, which was very special to us. We are huge fans of color, so my florals were incredibly vivid and fun! We alternated beautiful gold candle stands and florals on all of the tables. Sam grew up loving, and playing, sports of all kinds. He started working at Glen Echo Country Club in High School, and worked there for many years. When we started discussing venue options, Glen Echo seemed like the perfect choice, full of wonderful memories. The boys also played golf the morning of the wedding! Our guest book was a large recycled paper, watercolor map of the world! We plan to hang this map, and create a travel wall where it is surrounded by photos of our journeys together. We’re kind of eclectic people, so it was important to us that not everything be uniform. The bridesmaid’s dresses were all different, and the guys all picked out their own ties.
Sam and I looked forward to a number of things on the wedding day, specifically our first look before the ceremony. Surprisingly, neither of us were really nervous, as I thought we would be, the excitement took over! Being surrounded by our friends and family on the day of our wedding is something that we will never forget. Everyone made us feel so special, and the day was full of happiness and love.
