Real Bride: Nicole W.

From the bride: Dustin & I have been together for twelve years so, needless to say, our family and friends were super excited we were finally tying the knot! After I found my beautiful 20’s style Modern Trousseau gown, I knew I wanted a vintage style wedding. We are both extremely shy and laid back so we wanted a relaxed, fun atmosphere as well. We both enjoy hiking, camping, and being outdoors in general so Camp Pin Oak was the perfect place for our “vintage forest wedding”.

Camp Pin Oak used to be a Girl Scout camp until the dining lodge caught fire in 2010. It was rebuilt and converted to a wedding/event venue. It’s absolutely beautiful! We had our ceremony in the amphitheater and reception in the dining lodge. They even have a fire pit with seating and rustic cabins for guests to stay in; it really was perfect for us.

The ceremony was beautifully decorated with flowers by Hy-Vee including a gorgeous floral and foliage garland. I had three bridesmaids and three bridesmen stand up with me including my brother, two cousins, and a cousin-in-law.  To make it even more personal, my cousin Joe officiated our ceremony. He did such a great job making everyone laugh and cry all while keeping it short and sweet (per the shy couple’s request).

The lodge was decorated with old photos of our Grandparents and Great Grandparents along with vintage items passed down in our families. The head table was set with my Great Grandmother’s china which matched our theme wonderfully. We had a terrific meal catered by Baba’s Bistro and a beautiful “naked” cake created by Hy-Vee (I was seriously blown away with the flowers and cake Hy-Vee provided).  Cupcakes were made by the best chef in the world (my Grandmother).  The Margarita cupcakes were a hit (Petron tequila was an ingredient!!) We danced the night away thanks to Elite Lighting and Sound and several of us concluded the evening with a trip to the fire pit (guests received S’mores party favors).

I could not have imagined a more perfect way to celebrate our love for one another.  We can’t thank our parents enough for waiting so patiently and supporting us through it all.  We are excited to see what the future holds!
