From the Bride:
Mike and I were introduced by mutual friends and despite the “long distance” between Wichita and Kansas City, we knew we had something special and kept our relationship going! Mike proposed after 14 months when we were down in Austin, Texas for the weekend. We were on a rooftop overlooking the city when he popped the question in front of close friends. It was a perfect moment and amazing surprise!
We knew we wanted to have a classic wedding in the heart of Kansas City, as many of our family and friends are from out of town. I grew up spending my summers in Glen Arbor, Michigan, and Mike fell in love with the area on his first visit. We knew we wanted to incorporate details from this place into our day, so we were able to bring in our favorite sparkling wines, as well as chocolate covered and dried cherries. We also did a sand pouring during our ceremony, and I used sand from Glen Arbor while Mike used sand from Cocoa Beach, Florida, where he was born.
One of our highlights from the wedding was making our entrance into the reception venue. It was so fun to walk in and see all of our family and friends who made the trip to Kansas City to celebrate us. There aren’t enough words to describe how incredible it feels to have all of your nearest and dearest from all walks of life together.
I found my dream dress with the help of Sara. My entire experience at Altar was so easy and exciting. I appreciate the attention to detail they have and how the entire staff listens to help you find exactly what you are looking for! I have always dreamed of a lace dress with pearl buttons down the entire back. Augusta Jones was able to add these custom touches, making the dress absolutely perfect for me!
The First Look:
In keeping with tradition (and wanting Mike’s reaction to be captured by all of our guests), we decided to wait until I walked down the aisle to have our first look. However, we did stand on either side of a wall and exchange letters before the ceremony. This was such a special time for us to share our thoughts and calm each other down before the festivities began!
Advice for Brides:
One piece of advice we have is to get a wedding planner. We used Holly Davidson at Simple Elegance. It was some of the best money we spent on the wedding, as she helped us through the entire planning process. The day of our wedding went by seamlessly and Holly and her team guided us through the day so we never had to worry about what needed to happen next. By having a planner we were able to enjoy our day to the fullest!
