From the Bride:

How they Met:

Brett and I met in November of 2011 at Northwest Missouri State University. We were both involved in Greek Life on campus and originally met at a Thanksgiving mixer at the Phi Delta Theta fraternity house. After messaging on Facebook for the next couple of weeks, we finally decided to go on our first date. We met at a coffee shop on campus called Java City and talked for hours. That one date was all it took, and we were inseparable. After graduating in 2014, I moved to Overland Park and we started our own little family with our pup Louie.

The Proposal:

Brett and his friend Matt had been dying to see Kanye West and finally bought tickets to his show in Chicago. Brett decided that while he was in the Windy City, he would look for rings at a small shop that I really liked. After lying to me (a lot) he ordered the ring and had it sent to a friend’s house.

Fast forward two weeks- we arrived at The Midland Theatre for the Ben Rector concert (he is my FAVORITE!!) I was so excited, and Brett seemed a little “squirrelly” most of the evening. Ben finally came on (we had been waiting for 2 hours) and it was fantastic! The last song of the concert was “White Dress,”one of my favorites, and suddenly Brett began to stand up and dig into his pocket. Before I knew it, Brett was on one knee asking me to marry him. The crowd went wild, and a friend was able to video the entire thing.

After leaving the concert, Brett had planned a surprise engagement party just down the street! We went to Johnny’s Tavern and were greeted by our parents and closest friends. I had no idea, and everything went off without a hitch. It was the perfect night!

The Big Day:

The Venue:

The wedding planning process was an amazing experience for us as a couple. Our first decision was to find a venue, and Grand Street Cafe made the choice an easy one. We were looking for a modern venue with a classic feel. The contrast of black and white throughout the space made was the perfect backdrop to celebrate becoming husband and wife. We loved its location on the Plaza and were guided each step of the way by our amazing coordinator, Logan. From there, everything seemed to fall into place.

The Dress:

The next big decision was the dress. A friend of mine bought her dress at Altar Bridal, and it was at the top of my list for shopping. We worked with Dede at our first appointment, and she was incredibly patient with me and the 7 ladies I brought along! We were able to customize the dress by changing the lining color and adding buttons all the day down the train. It was truly one of a kind, and I am so happy with the choices we made. I worked with Sara to pick out the perfect accessories, and my bridal look came together seamlessly.

Other Details:

We chose a dusty blue for the bridesmaids dresses in order to contrast with the burgundy flowers and accents throughout the day. The men looked extremely handsome in their charcoal suits, and the unique autumn feel that we wanted really came through. Our biggest challenge was the weather, and we were blessed with a gorgeous day with warmer than usual temperature for November. We were able to travel around Kansas City to take pictures with our wedding party as well as family members.

It was a special day and the perfect start to our lives as husband and wife.
