Real Bride: Beeta K.

Beeta and Billy’s downtown wedding was classic and made very personal with some special details that represented their relationship and their family backgrounds. We enjoyed every minute of helping Beeta find the most beautiful gown and are truly so excited to share photos of their gorgeous fall day! Enjoy images by the Waldron Photograph Company.

From the bride: We met in college and got to know each other over the course of five years before we started officially dating. After spending the next three years moving, going to graduate school together, and traveling, we got engaged. Coming from different cultural and religious backgrounds, Billy & I always knew that we would have to put a lot of work into making sure our wedding represented us and our families well. We decided to get married at the Kansas City Public Library, and it felt fitting for us to be married surrounded by books since our apartment is much the same. The Terrace was perfect for the reception — with our beloved skyline seen from the rooftop deck and our dogs adorned in flower collars to greet the guests at the cocktail hour. We designed every element of our ceremony to reflect our relationship and family traditions— from both sets of parents giving us away, readings from books we poured over together, and prayers that are important to us — to incorporating a Persian honey ceremony into the vows, which symbolizes the couple feeding each other sweetness and sustenance throughout their lives together. My mother, aunts, and cousins put together a traditional Persian sofreh, or wedding table spread, with items brought from Iran that represent important aspects of a fruitful marriage. We wrote out the meaning of each item, in both English and Farsi, so that our guests could understand the significance of the spread. At the very end of the night, the event coordinator kicked everyone out, and we got to have one last dance in private. (As an introvert, that was my favorite part.)
