We spend a lot of time meeting brides in this business! So, this week we figured we’d turn it around and introduce ourselves first!
Hello! And first off, thanks for reading our blog! My journey to opening a bridal shop is pretty long, so I’ll simply sum it up like this: I’m a Certified Public Accountant gone rouge! After 13 years in accounting, I needed a change; weddings were just something I seemed to have a special affection for.
Seeing the bride being revealed for the first time to her future spouse is something that brings tears to my eyes every time – even if I have no clue who the couple is. That moment is just so special – no matter where it happens. And sure, weddings are a day where EVERYONE wants to look their best – but let’s be honest, the only person people are REALLY talking about is the bride and what she is wearing! So, I took the leap and have loved being a part of so many love stories as a result.
Our #1 goal at Altar has always been to provide a wonderful experience for our brides. It’s the main reason for opening the store. I wanted to create a store for brides wanting to shop for fresh and fashionable wedding gowns in a relaxed and personal atmosphere. We do our best to live up to that every single day. I love the team of ladies that have worked at the store over the years and currently. I am a very blessed business owner with a supportive husband, two kiddos (boy + girl), a dog and a cat. In my spare time I love to work in my flower/veggie garden!
Hello! I’m Sara, the store manager here at Altar. I made my way into bridal as a way to combine my love for design and my desire to provide an excellent customer experience. I graduated from Oklahoma State University with an apparel design degree in 2007. After graduating, I worked at Nordstrom for a couple years which was invaluable experience when it comes to building customer relationships. The icing on the cake was that I met my husband, Chris, while I was working there. I then met our store owner, Dede, right as she was about to open Altar Bridal in the spring of 2010. It was an easy next career move! I became our store manager in 2011, and the rest is history. Most people who meet me agree that I’m a happy-go-lucky kind of person, and I love getting to share this experience with brides! I’m a Disney fanatic, a crazy plant lady, and I absolutely love my family (including my hubs Chris and my bulldog Lucy)!
Laura, Social Media/ Consultant:
Hey there! I’m Laura, and I’ve worked at Altar since August 2017! I’ve worked in bridal for over three years now; I took a random chance and applied at a bridal store when I needed a job, and immediately fell in love with it. There’s something about getting to be part of the moment where a bride realizes she’s getting married that’s just really special. I love that we use the beauty of a gown to represent a bride’s love for her fiance and her family. Also, I have a ton of fun getting to interact with our brides on our social media. When I’m not helping brides find their perfect gown, I’m chilling with my adorkable husband at home, spending too much time on Reddit, knitting, or annoying my border collie, Evi. I can’t wait to meet you and help you find the dress of your dreams!
How I got into bridal? Just 🍀 lucky! While shopping for my daughter’s wedding, a shop owner offered to hire me. I wasn’t looking for a job, bridal or otherwise, but I was intrigued. The next time I spoke to her, she told me she was sure it would be a good fit. And why not? I was now familiar with gowns and veils, fabrics as well as styles. Also, I like meeting new people, and weddings are such happy occasions! So, here I am, many, many years later, still doing bridal and loving it! ❤ I live in South KCMO with my husband Jeff; two of my children are married, with my third and final getting married in July this year! We have two grandchildren and our precious pup, Sky. I love to travel. New Orleans and Napa Valley are favorites in the states, or Montreal in Canada. And cruises are great, especially river cruises!
Hi! I’m Brooke! I started my internship in late May and will be here through August! After, I am heading back to UCM to continue my degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising. I wanted to be an intern here because I love the romance and excitement of being part of a Bride’s big day. Also, I just LOVE wedding dresses.😉I have always loved beautiful things and the opportunity to create beauty, so getting to extend a bride’s personal style through her wedding day style has always fascinated me. I have the same birthday as Harry Potter (July 31st), and my favorite kind of ice cream is super chunky cookie dough from Blue Bunny. My free time is spent with my boyfriend, Justin, and my Yorkie, Clyde!
